Vab Goel Bio
A business executive with more than a decade of investment experience, Vab Goel assesses early and late stage investment opportunities in the systems, services and Internet-related industries. Initially interested in electrical engineering, Mr. Goel earned a Bachelor of Science degree in the field from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. After graduation, Mr. Goel spent many years in the telecommunications industry in key engineering and executive management roles. Mr. Goel worked at Sprint, serving as the principal architect for the Sprint Internet backbone in addition to contributing to Sprint’s IP and optical network strategy. Furthermore, Mr. Vab Goel played a key role in the Global One IP network, a venture partnership among Deutsche Telekom, France Telecom, and Sprint that offered large-scale network deployments for multinational conglomerates.
Vab Goel Telecommunications Background
After Sprint, Vab Goel served on the executive level for telecommunications provider Qwest. Establishing the Emerging Technologies Group at Qwest, Mr. Goel oversaw the identification and creation of new networking technologies as Vice President of the group. In addition, Mr. Goel developed strategic relationships with technology start-up companies, including Juniper Networks, Siara Systems and Corvis. Prior to that, Vab Goel worked as Vice President of IP Network Engineering and Advanced Technology, where he utilized his experience from Sprint to implement the company’s IP Network and Data Center Strategy designed to enable seamless services, particularly for customers.
Vab Goel moved from engineering and executive roles to investing in 2000, drawing from his experiences in network engineering to make viable investment strategies in his venture role. Today, Mr. Goel works as a General Partner at Norwest Venture Partners (NVP), where he makes early to late stage venture investments across a wide range of technology sectors. Investments that Mr. Goel has made while at Norwest Venture Partners include C2C Pte. Ltd.; Virtela; LifeSize Communications (acquired by Logitech); Qumranet (acquired by Red Hat); and Unisfair (acquired by InterCall). Vab Goel works closely with Pontis, Apigee and Veveo today, and previously worked closely with Extreme Networks and Winphoria Networks (acquired by Motorola).
